BARNSTON AFC 4                 SPORTING 77 KESTRELS 0

CRUISING HOME

The last League match of Season 2011/2012 saw Barnston AFC secure an emphatic win over visitors Sporting 77 Kestrels. In an exciting Season, the Barnston boys have made considerable progress, and have, without doubt, made an impact in Division 3, having won promotion in Season 2010/2011.

In bright sunshine, the home side took the lead after only 5 minutes. Jonah Carter, having received a fine pass from midfielder Harry Brown, once again demonstrated his appetite for goals, embarking on a skilful solo run and finishing with a well-placed shot.

As the hosts continued to dictate the pace, Ollie Ashton, one of Barnston’s rising stars, displayed his authority in midfield, closely supported by Jake Marwaha and Nick Masich.

Although Barnston goalkeeper Harry “paws” Price was called upon to make a fine save after a determined break by the Kestrels, striker Joe Picton almost put Barnston further ahead on 20 minutes, his shot being well saved by the away team’s goalkeeper.

With the Barnston defence remaining resolute under the direction of defenders Andrew Kliskey and Alex “kingpin” Bunn, the visitors were denied any kind of foothold, as the home side continued to take the initiative. On 24 minutes, Thomas “the express” Fobbester, another Barnston boy who has firmly established himself this Season, crashed home a fine shot, making a score-line of 2-0, as Barnston continued to cruise.

As half-time approached, Barnston front man Adam Janes saw his strong free-kick well saved by the Kestrels goalie, making a half-time score of 2-0. Testament to their character, the Kestrels bravely attempted to step up their pace as the second half began, and saw a fine effort crash off the Barnston crossbar.

Nevertheless, on 48 minutes, Ollie Ashton’s nicely flighted free-kick found Thomas Fobbester in space, Thomas crashing home a fine shot to give Barnston a comfortable 3-0 lead. Although the Kestrels bravely attempted to push forward, the visitors were continually denied, Barnston defenders Andrew Kliskey and Michael Dalzell illustrating their defensive skills.

On 55 minutes, and from a set-piece corner, Barnston boy Tommy “pillar of strength” Barrington headed the home side’s fourth goal, securing a fine victory for a Barnston side that will no doubt continue to impress.
